Week 35 -- Feb 10-16, 2015

Week 35 was a pretty exciting one! We got a few last minute "bigger" items that we'd been missing like a big swing and an extra car seat base. They weren't really needs but they were things that we wanted to have and my mom was nice enough to get them for us! So M put together the swing and Gage had to test it out. No worries though, he jumped out immediately and after getting a little too close (and getting smacked in the nose) he's avoided it altogether. Wednesday morning I started feeling like I could breathe a bit better. My belly looked different and I was starting to wonder if he'd dropped. After comparing pictures from the day before and several comments, I'd say he's making his way downward! Friday both me and M were home so we spent the day shopping for nursery decor. It was fun to just wander through the stores together and choose each little piece for M&M's room. I'd been craving ice cream again so after we got all finished, I had some Coldstone and put my feet up! Saturday was a busy day. I made us a festive pancake breakfast and then got ready for my job interview. I haven't talked about it really at all but I will be finding a new job to start after maternity leave. The interview went really well and then we headed out for our Valentine's lunch. A nap was necessary after all the delicious food. Then I got ready again and we headed out to a hockey game! We didn't get to go to one last year because M was gone pretty much the entire season. I had thrown a brand new bag of peanut M&M's that M gave me for Valentine's day in my purse for the ride to the game and back. I honestly forgot that I probably couldn't bring them into the game with me. Needless to say, I almost started crying when the security guard made me throw them out. They hadn't even been opened! I think I should have gotten a pass since I am quite obviously pregnant and in need of chocolate at all moments ;) I think I will pout about that for a long time haha. The game was a lot of fun and we got plenty of people watching in! Throughout the whole thing, I had been tracking some Braxton Hicks contractions. They were pretty consistent and by the time we got home, we decided I'd had enough in an hour that I should probably call L&D to see what they thought. After chugging about 40 oz of water and waiting another hour, they had me come in. We frantically got the car packed and headed all the way back to the hospital which is quite a distance from our house (and just a few minutes away from where the hockey game was). Of course, they petered out once I got all hooked up but I got to listen to his heartbeat for about an hour which I never get tired of! It was around 3 am by the time we got home so we slept in pretty late on Sunday. We spent the rest of the day putting up the nursery decor and cleaning up the mess we'd made while packing up Saturday night. Though I'm a little disappointed that it was just a false alarm, every day brings us closer to little man and I'm thankful for that! We will see what week 36 brings..

Week 34 -- Feb 3-9, 2015

My face is cut out of this week's bump picture because I was being a bit grumpy and I ran out of time to take a decent picture. That's not the important part of the picture anyway ;) Had a midwife appointment to which we were nearly an hour late to because of the snow. Even though we gave ourselves an extra 45 minutes to get there in the first place. Lovely Iowa weather! Thankfully everyone after me had rescheduled so they were still able to get me in! We got confirmed my suspicions that M&M had returned to the head down position and that there was basically a zero percent chance of him flipping again because he's just running out of room in there. A huge relief to hear that! I spent the rest of the week just enjoying M being home :) Nothing like a month apart to make you really appreciate each other. M had drill that first weekend back but thankfully it was also family day so I got to go with! We dropped him off early Saturday morning and then I headed to Cedar Rapids to spend some time with one of my best friends there. We got some shopping done for the nursery and got to catch up after months apart. I ran back to Iowa City to pick M up and then we all went to BWW for food. I have to laugh because I always drink WAY more water when we go out to eat or I'm not at home. I think it's the ice in the water and the fact that they are always filling it up which means I have no excuses. The next day I dropped M off early once again and then wasted a few hours around town before I could pick him up again. I had a near embarrassing moment while meandering through Target in the mall because I couldn't find a bathroom. Let's just say I did the fastest waddle-run I could across the mall to find a bathroom in the nick of time. Pregnancy definitely keeps me on my toes! Once I picked M up again, we headed over to family day where I got to meet all of his buddies and their families. Since he's in the Reserves, I am pretty secluded from the other families in his unit. We don't ever see each other or have the opportunity to talk. It was great to finally meet them and feel like I could make some connections! We also had our first FRG meeting and I'm excited to see that it will help us stay connected throughout the year. I need that connection to some other ladies who understand what it's like! We got home late and exhausted but it was so worth it to be there for family day. Monday I got my Happy baby wrap carrier in the mail and I just had to try it out! I wanted to get the "real" experience so I used a doll we had laying around as my fake baby. I'm so excited for him to get here so I can carry him around in it!

Week 33 -- Jan 27-Feb 2, 2015

This week I was pretty distracted. I was thankful to have my baby shower to focus on so the last week of M being gone didn't drag on. Especially after a whole month, that last week of waiting can be brutal! (He was in California for the whole month of January due to Annual Training for the Army. Originally he was supposed to be gone much later in the year for half the time. Welcome to military life where it's hard to make plans because things will change once you do.) Then I picked up a pretty nasty cold which always sucks but was worse because everything I normally use for a cold, I'm not allowed to take during pregnancy. So I loaded up on the vitamin C, humidifier, and water all week. Of course, there was an impending snow storm the only weekend I had to go home. I lucked out because my best friend (who was throwing my baby shower) offered to drive home so I wouldn't have to worry about it! I relaxed and just enjoyed my weekend. The baby shower went off without a hitch and it was SO. MUCH. FUN. Having a best friend who is majoring in event planning is pretty convenient at a time like this ;) She put on a beautiful shower! The storm hit later that night and it really came down fast. I ended up slipping in the fresh snow but thankfully didn't fall. Catching myself did it's own damage though and I was pretty sore the next day. We decided it wasn't worth risk to go home on Sunday since it was still a blizzard out. We got up early Monday and headed back home! I was less than happy when we got back to my apartment and there were 4 foot snow drifts in front of both the front and back doors to my building. So, we doubled up on our socks and got everything carried in. Just in time for the snow removal people to show up.. We got stuff sorted out and by the time I got things put away, it was finally time to go pick M up! It felt so good to bring him home and be able to breathe a sigh of relief. Not knowing if he would be there when the baby was born had me on edge all month long! I don't know how so many ladies make it through pregnancy on their own. Having my husband gone for one month of it made me so appreciative of having him there for the rest of it! I'm so amazed by all the ladies who go through deployments during pregnancy. You ladies are rockstars!
